Statement

In Search of the Moment’s Truth

The question of the relationship between matter, time and change is the central theme of my work. Sculpture is not seen as an image or an isolated freeze of a rigid moment but as a description of a process. A process which deals with nature and the laws of nature, with the complex physical correlations of our world and the specific viewpoint of man thereupon.

In the center of the view is the fleetingness of the moment. My work looks
for an expression of the moment in the space-time continuum. For this I developed a formal language which makes possible in one and the same plastic description the moments and periods of time. It’s always about snapshots of great dynamic processes, I always go in search of a kind of “The Moments Truth”.

Biography

Als Brückenbauerin zwischen Deutschland und ihrer chilenischen Heimat machte sich Alejandra Ruddoff einen Namen. Ihre Großskulpturen zieren nicht nur Bauwerke und queren Überlandstraßen in Südamerika, sondern charakterisieren auch öffentliche Plätze wie etwa in Potsdam oder Niederlassungen öffentlicher Einrichtungen wie in Bonn. Ihr Werk „Hommage an den Wind“ wird im Kompendium „Destination Art“ des Phaidon Verlags unter den Top 500 gelistet.

Weil ihre Arbeiten bisweilen auf zwei Kontinenten gefragt sind, wurde etwa die Holzskulptur „mutatis mutandis“ sowohl auf der Biennale Venedig 2017 als auch, wenig später, bei einer Museumseröffnung in Santiago de Chile gezeigt.

Ruddoff arbeitet neben Holz und anderen Werkstoffen wesentlich mit Eisen, Stahl und Bronze. In ihrer Wahlheimat Berlin erschafft sie auch Gravuren, Drucke, Fotografien, Videos und Entwürfe für 3D-Drucke. Zu ihren Sammlern zählt u.a. das Museum der Schönen Künste Santiago. Die vielfach ausgezeichnete Dozentin und ehemalige DAAD-Stipendiatin wurde für ihr Werk kürzlich in die chilenische Akademie der Künste berufen.
